CHOISAI IIZASA: An ancient swordsman named in the KOJIKI and NIHON-SHOKI anthologies as the founder of KENJUTSU. According to legend, he learned his art from the TENGU, mythical beings who could turn themselves into birds and were considered masters of the martial arts. (See also Kendo article).
